European ICT Community Meets in Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul hosts over 400 ICT professionals from all over Europe on 29-30 January 2007

One of the first major events in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) field, “European ICT Conference on Research and Technology Development” will be held in Istanbul/Turkey on 29-30 January 2007.

The conference is organized by together with European Commission, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey-TUBITAK, Turkish Informatics Foundation–TBV, TAGES Consultancy. The conference is a joint event of EASIER and SEE-Innovation projects. Both projects are funded by EC DG Research under the 6th Framework Programme including partners from 20 countries in total, in which ICT community from those countries will be represented during the conference.

The main objective of the conference is to provide several opportunities for the ICT SMEs, “heart” of the ICT research and technology development in Europe, such as to meet each other, exchange project ideas in order to formulate concrete consortiums for submitting proposals in the calls under FP7. In the wake of the 7th Framework Programme, the conference will mainly focus on topics of the 1st ICT call. In this regard, invitation for the submission of “Project Ideas” has already been launched. Submitted project ideas will be elaborated in 9 different “networking sessions” during the conference addressing ICT challenges. Participants will enjoy this unique occasion to cooperate and establish consortiums on project proposals

As well as ICT SMEs. large ICT companies, main European research groups on ICT field, respective European Technology Platforms representatives are expected actively participate to the event. Currently, ICT SMEs from 20 countries already registered.

Conference will host many prominent speakers from European Commission, European ICT Leaders and European Technology Platforms. Conference will provide a dynamic environment with interactive parallel networking, information sessions and trainings. Sessions of the event will include:
- presentations from the representatives of European Commission, European Technology Platforms, EUREKA Secretary, CORDIS, IPR-Helpdesk and Finance-Helpdesk,
- training sessions on step-by-step proposal preparation procedures,
- open forum for exchanging views and ideas on how to develop project proposals in accordance with the main objectives of FP7,
- presentations on project ideas delivered by potential coordinators and/or partners,
- Europe wide partner-project match for SMEs, companies, academic institutions, public organizations, research institutes.

As stated before, the conference is a joint event of EASIER and SEE-Innovation projects. Both projects are funded by EC DG Research under the 6th Framework Programme. The geographical coverage of both projects reaches to 20 countries.
EASIER: Engaging regional SMEs within the ICT sector in EU research. The EASIER project will increase the ICT research activity and strengthen the competitiveness of ICT SMEs in Europe. Involved in sixteen European regions, the project will catalyse EU RTD projects by drawing on the strengths of existing regional networks and building a new trans-national partnership to boost ICT SME participation in European research programmes.
SEE-INNOVATION: Facilitating innovation for ICT SMEs in South Eastern Europe. SEE-Innovation is a Specific Support Action aiming to assist SMEs from candidate and third countries from the region of South Eastern Europe (SEE) to participate actively in EU-funded research in the field of Information Society Technologies.
