The third European symposium on aerothermodynamics for space vehicles will be held in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, from 24 to 26 November 1998, organised by the European Space Agency. This annual symposium will discuss the rapid developments in aerothermodynamics for space vehicles, a field driven by the need to solve the problems of high speed flights for advanced launchers, re-entry vehicles and planetary landers.

Discussions during the symposium will include the science and technology of classical aerodynamics, thermodynamics and thermochemistry. The applications will cover external flow over space vehicles and internal flow through vehicle propulsion systems. The following topics will be addressed during the conference:

- Configuration aerodynamics of space vehicles;
- Propulsion aerodynamics of space vehicles including plume interaction;
- Physics and chemistry of high-speed gas flows;
- Computational fluid dynamics;
- Facilities and instrumentation including TPS plasma testing;
- Flight testing;
- Extrapolation from ground to flight;
- Aerodynamics for decelerators and stabilisers;
- Multi-disciplinary optimisation.
