A conference to highlight the findings obtained with the European Space Agency's infrared space observatory (ISO) will be held in Paris, France, from 20 to 23 October 1998. The conference will provide the opportunity for a mid-term review of the results obtained from the ISO which operated successfully from 17 November 1995 to 8 April 1998.

The first results from the ISO have provided a breakthrough in current understanding of the composition of cosmic gas and dust, the physical processes related to star formation, the evolution of stars in both our galaxy and external galaxies and the mechanisms at play in the infrared galaxies.

The specific topics to be addressed during the conference will include:

- The ISO satellite;
- The solar system;
- Interstellar medium;
- Stars and star formation;
- External galaxies and cosmology;
- Overview of the proceedings covering the spectroscopic and photometric results.
