The series of international conferences on auditory display will continue this year in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from 1 to 4 November 1998. This will be the first time the conference will be held outside the USA, and the event will be sponsored by the University of Glasgow and Microsoft.

The conference will provide a forum for presenting research on the use of sound to provide enhanced user interfaces, display data, monitor systems, and for computer and virtual reality systems. It is a unique event in its singular focus on auditory displays, and the array of perception, technology, design and application areas that these encompass.

A wide range of topics will be covered during the conference, including:

- Sonification - data representation through video;
- Sound in human-computer interfaces;
- Auditory interfaces for people with visual disabilities;
- Audio on the World Wide Web;
- Sound in virtual environments;
- Tools and systems to support auditory display;
- Sound in mobile computing devices.
