Seminar overview

The Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard was created by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) to aid the distribution and viewing of medical images, such as CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasound.

HL7 (Health Level 7): An ANSI standard for healthcare specific data exchange between computer applications. The name comes from "Health Level 7", which refers to the top layer (Level 7) of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layer protocol for the health environment.

EN13606 is a second-generation interoperability architecture for the Electronic Health Record based on nearly 15 years of research. It is produced by CEN/TC251 in cooperation with Standards Australia and harmonised with developments in HL7 and openEHR. It proposes a scheme to define a healthcare record that is interoperable for any patient across systems and services to support direct patient care, shared care, decision support and quality management.
