A short course on the interpretation of vibrational spectra will be held in Pontypridd, United Kingdom, from 12 to 14 April 1999. The event is organised by the Infrared and Raman Discussion Group and the University of Glamorgan.

The course aims to develop practical experience in the interpretation of spectra, including the use of microscopes and reflectance accessories. Students will have the chance to do practical exercises using spectroscopic measurements to solve industrial and environmental problems involving materials identification and the characterisation of mixtures and polymers.

The course will be followed, on 15 April, by the 160th meeting of the Infrared and Raman Discussion Group.
