Net-shape and near-net-shape (NNS) metalworking technologies have been and continue to be key manufacturing technologies, with millions of people employed in this sector all over the world. Thanks to their industries playing the two roles of technology providers and users, Germany and Italy are the two leading countries in Europe in the field of these technologies.
NNS technologies are year by year confirming themselves as competitive and innovative technologies by adapting to the current market demand. Nowadays, NNS technologies provide a wide spectrum of components for the mechanical, electrical and electronic industry. Anything between small quantity and mass production of sometimes extremely complex parts with the weight ranging from few grams (e.g. for electronic circuits) up to kilograms or more (e.g. for vehicle industry) are produced for the market by using these technologies, with the beneficial effects of shortening process chains and improving part strength and quality.
NNS metalworking technologies are to a large extent an interdisciplinary domain of knowledge and experience where material engineers, plasticity engineers and production engineers co-operate both in research and practice.
The third edition of the one-day Italian-German Conference on Near-Net-Shape Technologies, which is going to take place March 20th in Milan at UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, is the follow up of the previous successful editions that offer an opportunity for comparison and exchange of experience and knowledge between professionals from industry and research centres of the two countries.
