Managing successful research projects

An intercultural training workshop on managing successful research and development projects will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, on 15 December 1998. The workshop will be organised by the coordinator of the Innovation Relay Centre for southern Germany, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum, and the European Commission, DG XIII, and will bring together German companies, research institutes and universities who are planning to join, or are already involved in, RTD projects.

The aims of the workshop are to promote awareness of cultural differences and provide training on the management of transnational differences and the development of strategies for successful projects. It also aims to ensure that SMEs wishing to participate in transnational RTD projects are prepared for the intercultural aspects of such an undertaking.

The morning of the workshop will be devoted to plenary sessions on the following topics:

- Cooperation in transnational R&D consortiums;
- Important rules in project management;
- Management styles in transnational projects;
- German enterprises and trading partners in European projects;
- The varying role of culture in European projects.

The afternoon will comprise a series of working groups on aims and strategies in project management, with the conclusions of these working groups being presented at the end of the workshop.
