Education and the Information Society

A Euro-Mediterranean working conference on education and the Information Society will be held in Marrakech, Morocco, on 19 and 20 October 1998. The event will be organised within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Information Society Action Plan under the auspices of the European Commission and the Ministry of Higher Education, Executive Training and Scientific Research in Morocco.
The conference will be particularly addressed to professional educators, enterprises, telecommunication operators, educational software providers and researchers. It will aim to help participants understand the importance of integrating information technologies at work by managers (through continuing education), as well as by educators (through initial education at different levels, professional training, and the training of trainers). It will also gather different experts (researchers and end-users) in order to foster initiatives for both northern and southern Mediterranean countries and finalise concrete proposals.
The conference will focus on the following themes:
- Education needs and information technologies;
- Technological and economic aspects;
- Distance learning project achievement;
- New methods of learning and teaching;
- Experiences.
A series of parallel working groups will address the following topics:
- Training of trainers;
- Courseware development;
- Professional and continuing development.
