The Institute of Telecommunications in Warsaw, in association with the Janusz Groszkowski Polish Foundation for Research in Telecommunications, will organise a conference on research in the Information Society, to be held in Warsaw, Poland, from 15 to 17 October 1998. The aim of the conference is to bring together international experts and researchers from Central and Eastern European countries to discuss issues of research related to the concepts of the Information Society and their implementation.

The topics to be discussed during the conference include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Development of the Information Society in Poland;
- Introducing the global Information Society: the EU approach;
- Internet development, its impact on business and government, and the role of government in its regulation and development;
- Information Society research in national and global programmes;
- Information Society within the Fifth RTD Framework Programme;
- Information Society implementation strategies;
- Standards and organisations;
- New services;
- Information Society and security.
