Electronic business challenges

EBC'98, a colloquium organised to mark the 50th anniversary of the Belgian Office for External Trade, will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 29 October 1998. The event will be devoted to informing all kinds of Belgian enterprises on the latest developments in electronic commerce.

The colloquium will focus on the presentation of case studies and will consist of presentations from invited speakers from different commercial sectors on their own experiences in electronic commerce. These will cover the following topics:

- The strategic importance of electronic data interchange;
- Integrated electronic commerce versus one-stop shopping;
- Mail order companies and electronic commerce;
- Internal applications and electronic invoicing in the energy sector;
- Transport and electronic commerce;
- Electronic commerce and taxation;
- An Internet bookstore and the competitive advantages offered;
- Internet opportunities for software developers.

In addition, an exhibition on the practical application of electronic commerce will give participants the opportunity to discuss technologies and applications with the principal actors in the electronic commerce marketplace.
