Keeping ahead with European information

A conference entitled "Keep ahead with European information" will be held in Maastricht, The Netherlands, on 16 and 17 November 1998, organised by the European Institute of Public Administration and the European Information Association. The event will be opened with a keynote speech from a Member of the European Parliament's Committee on Culture, Youth, Education and Media, who was rapporteur of the 1998 report on Information and Communication Policy in the EU.

The conference is aimed at European information professionals and will seek to discuss new and important issues in the field of European information, as well as new products and services of interest to those working in the field. Officials working in the European institutions and other European organisations will be brought together with information professionals working in EU information relays.

The specific topics to be addressed during the conference will cover:

- The EU and the Internet: the future development of EUROPA and tools and tricks to retrieve reliable information from the Internet;
- The information policy of DG XI;
- The EU electronic translation project SYSTRAN;
- An information strategy for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe;
- Developments at the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities (Eur-OP);
- Evaluation of the EU's information relays;
- Comitology - what is it?
