Pipeline safety and spills remediation

A workshop on pipeline safety and spills remediation will take place in Oufa, Russia, on 4 and 5 November 1998. The workshop will be held within the framework of the EU's JOULE-THERMIE programme for research and demonstration in the field of Non-nuclear Energy technologies. It will be jointly organised by the Energy Centre of Tyumen (EREC) and Groupement des Entreprises Pétrolières et Gazières, France.

The workshop will address the following topics in detail:

- Transportation problems;
- Use of highly concentrated energy sources for pipeline systems rehabilitation;
- Leak detection and pipeline corrosion assessment;
- Techniques for efficient local and/or lower-cost repairs;
- Pipeline corrosion protection by external and internal coating;
- Technologies to reduce the environmental impact of pipeline transport.
