The 28 and 29 June 2007 have been confirmed as the dates for the first EURIPIDES Forum, taking place at the Palais des Congrès in Versailles. EURIPIDES is EUREKA’s Cluster dedicated to Smart Systems based on development, integration and packaging of microcomponents and MEMs. Over these two days, participants will have the opportunity to meet European representatives from public authorities and industry involved in defining and completing projects in the field of smart system integration. The programme reflects the diverse areas in which smart systems are used to improve the daily lives of European citizens, implicating the transport, medical, security and industry sectors.

“For the first time, we will be able to demonstrate our results with a number of presentations and roundtable discussions in a variety of areas involving Smart Systems,” says EURIPIDES Chairman Gaëtan Menozzi. “The exhibition will also serve as the ideal opportunity to demonstrate our results with several success story projects,” he adds. EURIPIDES-labelled projects aim to put bottom-down research results on the market by encompassing technological break-points. Projects that generally last three years and lead to pre-industrial prototypes involve around 40 % of SMEs.

EURIPIDES is a recent merger between EURIMUS II (microsystems) and PIDEA+ (packaging and interconnection). Since 1998, both EURIMUS and PIDEA have established strong relationships between European industry and R&D institutes. In both Clusters, 300 partners from 20 European countries have collaborated in over 112 projects with a total public-private investment of almost 663 million euro. So far the new EURIPIDES Cluster has labelled 26 projects for a total budget of 156 million euro. “The Cluster’s mission is to develop new products based on miniaturisation, autonomy, reliability, low-energy-using micro and nanosystems, packaging, simulation and test, microtechnologies,” says EURIPIDES Office Director Yves Le Goff. “We aim to reduce time to market and increase the share of European companies in the global market, focussing in the area of advanced systems.”
