FP7 Aerospace: Partnership opportunities with South Africa

In order to highlight the potential for Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) aerospace partnerships with South Africa, the country's FP7 National Contact Point (NCP) for Aeronautics, Prof Kamal Parker, will on Thursday 5 July 2007 in Brussels, deliver a special presentation on aerospace research and innovation in South Africa.

5 July 2007 - 5 July 2007
South Africa
During the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), South African organisations achieved their first participation in Framework Programme aerospace projects. Building on this success, concerted initiatives are currently undertaken to improve on this participation during FP7.

The aerospace sector is one of the most important high technology industries in South Africa. Promoting aerospace research and innovation is therefore a strategic priority and an area in which South Africa already enjoys significant partnership with Europe (including with partners such as: Airbus/EADS, ONERA, DLR, Fraunhofer, SAAB, etc.

During his presentation, Prof Parker will elaborate on South African competencies and expertise covering the entire aerospace innovation spectrum, including material technologies (e.g. light metals and bio-composite development), electronics (e.g. work on sensors and embedded systems) and software development (e.g. flight control algorithms and simulator development).

South Africa has a fully-fledged NCP Network, covering all FP7 thematic and horizontal areas, appointed by the country's Department of Science and Technology. The NCPs are also supported under the European South African Science and Technology Advancement Programme (ESASTAP).

Prof Parker's presentation will be held at the South African Mission to the European Union in Brussels (Rue Montoyer 17-19, Metro: Trone.) The presentation will start at 12:30 and be concluded with a networking lunch.

All interested parties are welcome to attend and can confirm participation to: daan.dutoit@dst.gov.za.
