The Wessex Institute of Technology, UK, in cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, will organise a conference on water pollution, to be held in Lemnos, Greece, from 24 to 26 May 1999. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for discussion for scientists and managers working in different aspects of water pollution.

The conference will also facilitate the continuous exchange of information between scientists and engineers of different countries who need to be familiar with a wide range of issues. These include elements such as the physical processes of mixing and dilution, various chemical and biological processes, mathematical modelling, data acquisition and measurement.

The topics to be addressed during the conference include the following:

- Databases and baseline information on pollutants;
- Industrial and domestic pollution;
- Chemical, nuclear and thermal pollution;
- Experimental and laboratory work;
- Hydrodynamic and water quality modelling;
- Groundwater and aquifer contamination.
