An international colloquium on the role and contribution of international organisations to space law will be held in Umbria, Italy, on 6 and 7 May 1999. The event will be organised by the European Centre for Space Law, in association with the University of Perugia and the Italian National Research Council.

The aim of the event is to bring together space law experts and practitioners to provide participants with up-to-date information on the latest developments in the field of space law. The particular focus will be on the role of international organisations in setting up or implementing space law, concentrating on issues such as liability, intellectual property rights, and life and work on board manned space stations.

The following topics will be discussed in detail during the conference:

- The implementation of space law with regard to international organisations;
- International organisations engaged in space activities;
- International organisations engaged in regulatory, policy-making and related activities in the field of space;
- Problems arising from the privatisation of international space organisations;
- The contribution of international organisations through international treaties and agreements;
- The contribution of international organisations through the implementation of their own rules;
- The contribution of international organisations in the main sectors of space activity, namely in the fields of remote sensing and telecommunications.
