ORBIT'99, an international conference on the biological treatment of waste and the environment, will be held in Weimar, Germany, from 2 to 4 September 1999. The aim of the conference is to address the whole spectrum of biological waste management, focusing on aspects related to composting and anaerobic digestion.

The conference will provide a forum for discussion of issues of interest to plant operators, scientists, regulators and other state and private organisations. The themes to be addressed are as follows:

- Composting research and technology;
- Anaerobic digestion research and technology;
- Developments in biological pre-treatment;
- Economic aspects;
- Legislation and policy issues;
- Environmental and health impacts;
- Product quality and use;
- Analytical methods;
- Biodegradable polymers;
- Bioremediation of land and sediments;
- Systems for developing countries.
