A business and investment forum for renewable energy in Africa will be held in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 29 to 31 March 1999. The event will be supported by UNESCO and the European Commission within the framework of the demonstration component (THERMIE) of the Non-nuclear Energy Technologies programme.

One of the main goals of the forum is to promote investments and financing opportunities for projects using efficient renewable energy technologies for sustainable development in Africa. The event will also offer European operators and investors the opportunity to create close contacts with their counterparts in Africa.

The following topics will be presented in detail during the conference:

- Relevant European, African and international renewable energy programmes;
- Financing renewable energy projects in Africa;
- Experiences and high priority projects in Africa and the EU;
- The technological market as presented by industrialists;
- The institutional and legal framework in Africa and the EU;
- The technological market as presented by professional associations.
