International symposia on industrial lasers and inspection and envirosense will be held in Munich, Germany, from 14 to 18 June 1999. The conference will be co-located with LASER'99 and will be sponsored by the European Commission, DG XII, the European Optical Society and the International Society for Optical Engineering.

The organisers are currently seeking the submission of papers for presentation during the symposia. The topics to be addressed during the "Industrial lasers and inspection" symposium will include:

- Computer controlled micro-shaping;
- Laser metrology and inspection;
- Optical measurement systems for industrial inspection;
- Microsystems metrology and inspection;
- Polarisation and colour techniques in industrial inspection;
- Diagnostic imaging technologies and industrial applications;
- Biomedical laser metrology and applications;
- Terahertz spectroscopy and applications.

The "Envirosense" symposium will address:

- Laser radar technology and applications;
- Lidar atmospheric measurements;
- Spectroscopic atmospheric environmental monitoring techniques;
- Remote sensing of vegetation;
- Environmental sensor fusion;
- In situ and remote measurements of water quality;
- Quality assurance and standardisation of optical remote sensing methods.
