The thirteenth annual conference of the POLIS network will be held in Berlin, Germany, from 18 to 20 November 1998. POLIS is a network of European cities and regions who are working together to combat common transport and environmental problems through the use of telematics. The conference will be targeted at urban and regional transport policy makers and managers, transport operators, industry representatives, service providers and researchers.
The focus of the event will be the implementation of innovative and cost-efficient means to improve transport, while taking into account aspects such as the environment, energy, efficiency and citizen's access to information. The aim is to examine the framework and elements required to create and maintain a more mobile and accessible society. The role of innovative policies, technologies and funding mechanisms will also be discussed.
The first two days of the conference will address managing the urban/inter-urban interface and innovative policies, technologies and funding mechanisms. The annual general assembly for POLIS members will be held on the third day of the conference and will involve the presentation of the first results of POLIS projects and a discussion of the opportunities provided by the EU's Fifth RTD Framework Programme.
