Repair and maintenance of historic buildings

STREMAH'99, the sixth international conference on structural studies, repairs and maintenance of historical buildings, will be held in Dresden, Germany, from 22 to 24 June 1999, organised by the Technical University of Dresden and the Wessex Institute of Technology, UK. The conference will bring together scientists, architects, engineers and building specialists in order to ensure that the considerable expertise which exists in the field is shared. This is particularly important in the light of the shortage of guidance in the form of textbooks, codes of practice and other publications.

The problem of the repair and maintenance of historical buildings, bridges, aqueducts and other stone, masonry or metal structures of historical significance is of great interest to many organisations in different parts of the world. The conference will examine issues related to the safety and integrity of the structures, as well as the architectural aspects of repairs and maintenance of historical buildings. New techniques which are available for the assessment of the problem such as those for monitoring and surveying the structures and simulation techniques will also be discussed.
