Presenting South Africa as FP7 Security Research Partner
The current South African R&D focus in the security field for example includes areas such as digital evidence mining - making sense out of huge volumes of digital data; electronic vehicle identification technologies and systems; tracking, surveillance and security technologies for correctional services, new cyber forensic techniques and tools - including digital mobile devices, as well as communication, surveillance and sensor technologies for border control. Preparation for the FIFA Football World Cup 2010 requires a concerted security focus in South Africa. Combating organised crime, violent crime, the proliferation of illegal guns, alcohol abuse and corruption are key national focus areas.
As part of South Africa's concerted efforts to establish mutually beneficial R&D cooperation with European partners, the country is also keen for its research and technology groups to secure appropriate participation in the security theme of the FP7. It is hoped that the presentation, presented as part of the European South African Science and Technology Advancement Programme (ESASTAP - http://www.esastap.org.za
The presentation will be held at the South African Mission to the European Union in Brussels (Rue Montoyer 17-19; Metro: Trone.) Dr Taute is the Safety and Security Technology Research Group Leader at South Africa’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
