A conference on the theme of "Technologies for flexible organisations: challenges for employment" will be held in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, on 14 December, forming part of a programme supported by the Walloon Regional Government for research and technological development. The aim of the event is to present the results of recent research, which reveal new aspects to the relationships between technology, flexibility and working.

The focus of the discussions during the conference will be on new information and communication technologies as a key element in the emergence of new, more flexible, forms of organisation. Questions such as the adaptation of society to these forms of working will also be addressed. The topics to be discussed in detail during the conference will include:

- Innovation in society based on knowledge;
- Technologies and jobs: key questions in the context of rising unemployment;
- Flexible organisation, technologies and challenges for the future of work;
- Present trends in the organisation of work in Belgium.
