European Researchers' Night in Izmir, Turkey

EBILTEM organizes Turkey’s European Researchers’ Night!

28 September 2007
Austria
European Researchers’ Nights provide the general public and in particular, young people with the opportunity to meet researchers within the context of festive and “out-of-the-ordinary” activities. The ultimate aim is to enhance public recognition of researchers and their role in society as well as to encourage more young people to embark on careers in science.

Building on its wide experience with the “first and only” event in Turkey last year, EBILTEM will renovate its content this year and create a “Science Town”. The theme of the activity will be “Science is Everywhere”. In this context, there will be a theater, pharmacy, grocer, bakery, general store, bookshop, art gallery, beauty parlour, police station, fire station, post office, a school and a playground. All of the activities; shows, contests and experiments will be organized in respective shops in the town according to their respective themes. It is expected that the participants leave the Night with the understanding and conviction that science is not something far-away and unreachable, at the contrary it is everywhere in our every day lives.

The European Researchers’ Night will take place in Izmir simultaneously with 40 cities all over Europe on 28 September 2007.

There will be different shows and competitions, talks, demonstrations and hands-on experiments to be realized by researchers with public participation. The event will be broadcast live on the project web-site. It is also planned to connect other Researchers’ Nights through teleconferencing.Project website: http://eurentr.ege.edu.tr(opens in new window)
