The second annual European conference of the RISI (Regional Information Society Initiative) regions will be held in Seggau and Graz, Austria, on 27 and 28 November 1998. The aim of the event is to examine the new possibilities of the knowledge society, and their implementation. The conference will feature the participation of representatives of the European Commission and regions in remote areas of Europe via video-conference.

The first day of the conference, to be held in Seggau, will consist of a series of plenary presentations. These will address topics such as:

- Telecommunications activities for SMEs in the region of Styria, Austria;
- The job market in the knowledge society;
- The regions, the Information Society and regional development;
- The Information Society as a tool for economic and social cohesion;
- How to build up an intelligent region;
- Strategic issues for intelligent regions.

The second day of the conference, to be held in Graz, will consist of four workshops, addressing the following:

- The new realities facing the labour market;
- The new realities facing regional economic development;
- The infrastructures of the knowledge society;
- The differences and common features of the RISI strategies.

The conference will also feature an extensive exhibition, comprising practical results from the regions, as well as innovative products and services of research institutes and companies all over the globe.
