An advanced course on artificial intelligence addressing machine learning and applications will be held in Chania, Crete, from 5 to 16 July 1999. The course will be organised by the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society (EETN) and will present the current state-of-the-art in machine learning, as well as show its potential application to a variety of problems.

The event will comprise a series of plenary sessions from invited speakers, workshops on machine learning applications, student sessions and panel discussions on the success of machine learning to date and its future directions. Topics of interest to the conference will include:

- Probabilistic graphical models;
- Genetic algorithms in artificial intelligence;
- Multi-strategy learning;
- Machine learning and knowledge acquisition;
- Inductive logic programming for data mining and machine learning.
