FP7 European Information and Brokerage Days
The event is organised by TrainNet Future, a European project on international cooperation in the FP6 with the new members of the EU, in collaboration with the European Commission. The projects involved in the organisation are: Injoy&Train (with Russia and Newly Independent States), EU-Balkan-Fabnet (with Balkan countries), Meda go to Europe (with Mediterranean countries, including North African countries), FOOD-FRENZ (with New Zealand), PAEPARD (with Canada) and Food-n-Co in which Latin American, Asian and South African countries are partaking.
This will undoubtedly assure the international, or shall we say “global” character of the initiative, which has an important objective to promote and increase exchanges between European researchers and those from non-European countries – thus favouring the matching of needs and priorities of the various geographical regions. The initiative wants, moreover, to bring together research community and companies, while more often involving stakeholders and industry representatives.
The kick-off of the event, in the afternoon of the 29th November, will be an “Information Day” to provide an overall picture of the 2nd theme of the specific programme on “Cooperation”. After a short introduction on the future perspectives of international cooperation within FP7 – in particular for FAFB – the most up-to-date information will be presented on the first KBBE call that ended on the 2nd of May. It will then be most interesting to examine the participation rates, and success rates, of the different countries.
Subsequent presentations will illustrate the topics of the 3rd call (deadline 26th of February 2008), the rules of participation in FP7, as well as the different ways in which proposals are presented and evaluated. There will also be a training session on how to present a successful proposal in FP7.
The second part of the afternoon, instead, will put researchers in the spotlight participating in the international cooperation projects of this event. The researchers will present the “catalogues” that point out the best research centres and researcher profiles of each geographical area (Asia, North Africa, Russia and Newly Independent States, Balkan countries, Latin and South America).
The crucial moment of the Brokerage event will nevertheless be the 30th of November. Three parallel sessions will held, corresponding two the three Activities of the 2nd Theme:
Session 1: Sustainable production and management of biological resources from land, forest and acquatic environments;
Session 2: From Fork to Farm: Food (including seafood), health and well being
Session 3: Life sciences, biotechnology and chemistry for sustainable non-food products and processes.
The three parallel sessions will each provide the most recent information about the topics of the next call that is expected in November, followed by a discussion on European Technology Platforms (ETPs) who are working on the three Activities: Forestry, Farm Animal Breeding; Food for Life, Global Animal Health; Plants for the Future, Sustainable Chemistry, respectively. For many this will be a perfect opportunity to learn about current focal points in research, and particularly about strategies that ETPs have outlined in their “Strategic Agendas”.
Of great interest for participating researchers will be the possibility to present their own research ideas. There will be ample time for coordinators who want to present their projects proposal for the next call in February 2008 in order to find new partners, especially from non EU countries.
Researchers from European as well as non-European countries will thus have the possibility to get to know colleague researchers and project coordinators. What is more, they will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the European Commission for more scientific questions. In fact, during the entire day, but especially in the afternoon of the 29th of November, various Project Officers will be present and open for questions on the scientific aspects of the 2008 call.
The two days in Brussels – intensive and full of opportunities – thus present an important occasion to find out the most recent advances in research, and to have a look at what is to come in the field of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology.
- APRE will be present in Brussels, with the aim to promote research in Italy, as it is one of the main organisers of the event and partner in all the participating cooperation projects. APRE has already started a fervent promotion campaign among Italian researchers, thereby intensifying support activities and assistance in project planning.
