The fifth international symposium on artificial intelligence, robotics and automation in space will be held in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, from 1 to 3 June 1999, organised by the European Space Agency. The aim of the event is to provide a forum for discussion on the latest developments in artificial intelligence and automation and robotics technology and their potential application to space.

Discussions during the conference will focus on aspects such as:

- Artificial intelligence for space applications:
. Spacecraft autonomy;
. Missions operations automation;
. Design tools and optimisation methods;
. Artificial intelligence methods;

- Robotics and automation for space applications;
. Application scenarios, programmatic and utilisation aspects;
. Robotics technologies for automation and robotics systems, support equipment, ground segments, mobility, manipulation, end effectors and tools;
. Technologies for space laboratory automation.
