Strengthening the interface and integration within the European petrochemical industries

A workshop on strengthening the interface and integration between petrochemical industries in Eastern and Western Europe, organised by the European Commission, DG III, will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 4 December 1998. Discussions during the workshop will focus on the impact of, and the opportunities offered by, future EU enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe in the petrochemical sector.

Questions to be addressed during the workshop will include those on the EU accession process and the potential difficulties. The event will be opened with a presentation from Mr Stefano Micossi, the Director-General of the European Commission's DG III for Industry. The following topics will be addressed during the workshop:

- The EU Accession programme;
- A combined East/West competitive petrochemical industry;
- A view of the petrochemical industry in Eastern Europe;
- Key elements for financial support;
- The Eastern European business climate: innovative approaches to public/private participation.
