Urban Transport'99, the fifth international conference on urban transport and the environment, will be held in Rhodes, Greece, from 8 to 10 September 1999. The aim of the conference is to bring together engineers, scientists and managers working in industry, research organisations and government on the development of new technologies, planning and management of urban transportation systems.

The varied problems of urban transportation and relevant links with inter-urban transportation will be addressed during the conference. This will cover different types of transportation systems, such as roads, light railways, waterway facilities and will emphasise the integration of these different types of transport. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the exchange of information among the different people working on urban transportation studies, such as researchers, technologists, planners, as well as those in charge of transportation policies.

Topics to be covered in detail during the conference will be addressed within the following session headings:

- Urban transport systems;
- Emerging technologies;
- Environmental aspects;
- Planning, funding and management;
- Vehicles.
