ENETRAP Project - Pilot Course ERPC - Occupational Radiation Protection

From 10 to 14 December 2007 the Center for Advanced Technological and Environment Training (FTU) of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH will run a Pilot Training Course on Occupational Radiation Protection: Specifities of Waste Management and Decommissioning. This course was developed by the ENETRAP EU Project.

The practice-oriented training module on Occupational Radiation Protection is designed for radiation protection professionals such as Experts (RPE), Officers (RPO), and Radiation Protection Workers who wish to improve and update their knowledge in Radiation Protection with regard to Waste Management, Decommissioning, and Transport of Radioactive Materials. The training is part of the newly developed European Radiation Protection Course (ERPC) meeting the training needs of the European RPEs.

Contents of the Course
- Waste Management, Waste Classification, Preparation and Conditioning
- Radiation Protection Planning and Organisation for Decommissioning, Strategies and Techniques
- Ventilation and Filtration, Air Sampling and Emission Control
- Safe Handling, Equipment and Protective Clothing, Release of Materials and Clearance of Buildings
- European Regulations (ADR) for Transport of Radioactive Materials, Classification, Signalisation and Documentation

The training methodology consists of lectures, laboratory exercises, case studies, and visits of facilities under decommissioning and waste management and storage facilities
