All the relevant information and application process can be found on their website at: http://www.formas.se/formas_templates/Page____3790.aspx(opens in new window) This includes;
• Call text including guidelines for application
• How to express an interest and find a research partner
• How to register and submit your proposal
• Discussion paper “Future Research Areas in the field of Urban Sustainability”
The key details of the call are as follows:
The theme of the call
Research proposals are invited from consortia of three or more countries to address research questions from within the broad framework of sustainable urban development. The main topics are the interactions between urban functions and sectors (e.g. economy; environment; housing) rather than developing more sustainable approaches within them. The resilient city is an example of a crosscutting theme that integrates economic, social/cultural and ecological dimensions of sustainability and demands a multidisciplinary approach.
Full research and pre-research projects
The call is open for;
• Full research projects for a duration of up to two years.
• Shorter pre-research activities that prepare the way for research. This could be arranging a conference, workshops or seminars, writing a literature review, state of the art or a proposal that could be used, for example, in the final URBAN-NET call or in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
Funding rules
The research consortia must include researchers from a minimum of three countries. The researchers will be funded through a funding organisation in the country in which they are based. The rules of that funding organisation must be followed.
Applicants should read the more detailed call text that includes guidelines for application and consult the national contact point about rules or conditions for participation.
The national funding organisations and corresponding national focal points are listed at the bottom of this page.
Application
Formas, the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning is the call secretariat and is managing this call.
Applications should be submitted electronically to Formas via their website given above.
Selection procedure
When the applications have been checked by the call secretariat and subsequently by the national funding organisations, they are passed on to a common expert panel. The panel will recommend selected projects for funding. The national funding organisations will make the final decision to provide funding and contracts to proceed with a project are concluded directly between the researchers and their relevant national funding organisations.
Evaluation criteria
The aim, theory, hypothesis and methodology of the research, as well as the scientific competence of the research consortium, will be assessed.
The relevance criteria refer to the URBAN-NET strategic objectives as outlined in the call text document. Proposals that incorporate an integrated approach that includes new combinations of people and perspectives (multi, inter and transdisciplinarity) are encouraged.
