Innovations in communications: The role of users, industry, and policy (Seville, 31/03-01/04/2008)

The European Communications Policy Research (EuroCPR) Conference, hosted in 2008 by the JRC Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), is held annually to facilitate systematic interaction between academic research, European and national policy makers, and industrial representatives in the communications sector.

Information society policies have been on the policy agenda in all countries and regions of the world since the beginning of the 1990s. The opening session of EuroCPR 2008 will explore important outcomes of policy initiatives and the similarities and differences between different regions of the world. For this purpose, speakers from Europe, Asia and the US have been invited to give their critical assessment of policy aims and results.

EuroCPR 2008 will cover policy initiatives with implications for innovations, including services, process, and organisational innovations.

The papers presented will deal with policy challenges arising from technology and market innovations, social innovations relating to the so-called Web 2.0 developments, including those addressing social innovation services and issues related to user-generated content.

The conference participants will discuss the issues surrounding network neutrality and their implications for innovation in application sectors. Moreover, the coherence of different policy initiatives is a theme to be examined.
