International Conference: Diversifying Crop Protection, La Grand Motte, France

Second announcement and call for submission
We invite all researchers, scientists and specialists involved or interested in sustainable agriculture and crop protection to participate in the first meeting organised and coordinated by ENDURE, European Network of excellence for the Durable Exploitation of Crop Protection Strategies.

12 October 2008 - 15 October 2008
France
The most recent advances in all aspects of the durable exploitation of crop protection strategies will be presented in lectures by scientists and guest speakers, and in posters. They will be shared under three axes:
1. Implementation: applying existing tactics and strategies
2. Innovation: building innovative strategies for tomorrow
3. Impact and governance: assessing progress toward sustainable development

Plenary sessions
- Global challenges of crop protection and food safety in the larger context of sustainable and ecological agriculture.
- Perspectives of a variety of stakeholder groups.

Specialised sessions will be devoted to various aspects of the durable exploitation of crop protection strategies for sustainable agriculture.

1) Implementation: applying existing tactics & strategies
- Specific tactics (monitoring pesticides, plant genetic resistance, biocontrol agents, semiochemicals and push-pull strategies, crop management, pest prevention and prophylaxy…)
- Implementing IPM strategies (combination of tactics)
- Boosters, barriers (biological, ecological, socio-economics…)

2) Innovation: building innovative strategies for tomorrow
- Basic knowledge (pesticide resistance, populations genetics, plant resistance genes, resistance mechanisms, plant-pest interactions…)
- Holistic and large-scale approaches (community ecology, agrosystems, lanscape ecology, invasive-emerging pests and diseases…)
- Innovative technologies (robotics, nanotechnologies, precision agriculture…)
- Innovation tools (diagnostic, modelling, decision support systems…)

3) Impact and governance: assessing progress toward sustainable development
- Surveillance of pest incidence
- Historical evolutions
- Ecotoxicology
- Environmental assessment
- Life-cycle assessment
- Socio-economic driving forces (public policies, regulations, long-term economics)
- Societal assessment (public, farmers, governance...)ENDURE and conference website:
