ETSF publishes a new call for proposals

The European Theoretical Spectroscopy Facility (ETSF) has published its new Call for Proposals at http://www.etsf.eu(opens in new window). The call will close at 23:59 on Monday 31st March 2008.

12 March 2008 - 1 April 2008

After the successful pilot Call of 2007, the European Theoretical Spectroscopy Facility (ETSF) is now publishing on its website its new Call for
Proposals. The call will close at 23:59 on Monday 31st March 2008.

The ETSF, a young European infrastructure active in the fields of nanoscience, relies on the 15-years experience of collaboration between several research groups throughout Europe. Through the ETSF, each user, whether from academia or industry, obtains an easier and wider access to world leading theoretical physics research and training tools. In fact each accepted project is redirected to the most suitable group of scientists among the more than 200 researchers that are currently working under the umbrella of this new knowledge centre.

To ease the access to its services, in analogy to a synchrotron, the ETSF is structured in beamlines. Each beamline covers a field of interest of theoretical spectroscopy such as optics, quantum transport, time-resolved and photo-emission spectroscopies. Users can easily identify the most appropriate beamline, and rely on the beamline scientist for further information and discussion concerning their projects.

The typology of eligible projects is very much varied, ranging from scientific collaboration, to consultancy for some work, from software downloads, to participation in training events. The application forms, together with 1 out of the 54 proposals submitted, 28 have been accepted (12 collaborative projects, among which 5 received funding, 12 training and 4 consultancies)
1 comprehensive information on the ETSF and its expertize, can be found on the web page www.etsf.eu.

The submitted projects will be evaluated by an external scientific board on the basis of scientific relevance, soundness, and excellence. An internal panel will be in charge of evaluating the feasibility of the proposals. Part of the successful applications will be funded by the EC through the ETSFI3 grant (January 2008 - December 2010), an ICT-based e-infrastructure.
Experimentalists and theoreticians from academia and industry are therefore invited to submit a proposal.
