The World Sustainable Energy Day 1999 conference will be held in Wels, Austria, on March 4-5 1999. The event is intended to be a milestone in the development of a European policy for sustainable energy, and will be organised by the European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources (EUFORES). The purpose of the event is to build on initiatives in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in Europe and to provide a forum for:

- demonstrating successful policies, programmes and projects concerning energy efficiency and renewable sources;
- discussing future political initiatives;
- launching new initiatives to implement EU energy policy.

Papers presented at the conference will focus on the following areas:

- demand side measures in buildings, transport and industry;
- supply side measures;
- policies, strategies, planning, assessment and follow-up;
- information, training, financing, market penetration;
- job creation.

The Conference is supported by the Altener II Programme of the European Commission.
