ESTOOLS 2nd Annual Consortium Meeting & Open Scientific Symposia -

Following the success in 2007 of the 1st ESTOOLS Annual Consortium Meeting
and Open Scientific Symposium in Brno, Czech Republic, the 20 partner
laboratories will all come together again 1-5 June 2008 in Budapest, Hungary.

Following the success in 2007 of the 1st ESTOOLS Annual Consortium
Meeting and Open Scientific Symposium in Brno, Czech Republic, the 20
partner laboratories will all come together again 1-5 June 2008 in
Budapest, Hungary. After 3 days of closed meetings 1-3 June, the ESTOOLS
consortium will open its doors to the public on 4-5 June and join with the
Hungarian Stem Cell Groups for two days of public scientific lectures,
round tables and discussions.
The theme for 4 June is "Advancing the frontiers of human embryonic stem
cell knowledge" and will feature lectures by Prof. Peter W. Andrews
(University of Sheffield’s Centre for Stem Cell Biology and ESTOOLS
coordinator), Prof. Christine Mummery (Netherlands Institute for
Developmental Biology), Prof. Mariusz Ratajczak (James Graham Brown
Cancer Research Center, Louisvile, Kentucky) and lectures by Principal
Investigators from, and advisors, to the ESTOOLS laboratories. 4 June will
conclude with a roundtable discussion on key technologies and issues
emerging from small stem cell companies, presented by the three SMEs in
ESTOOLS and other invited companies, facilitated by Prof. Martin Pera
(Centre for Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine at the Keck School of
Medicine, University of Southern California). All pre-registered attendees
are invited to a reception following the roundtable, where the poster prize
will be awarded.
5 June will open with a session with talks by experts from UK, Germany,
Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and the European Commission in
the science, law and ethics of stem cell banking and registry in Europe. The
Hungarian Satellite Workshop, focusing on the biology and clinical
applications of stem cells.
