It’s happening at SERI …

Under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, the fourth edition of the European Research & Innovation Exhibition will take place between 5 and 7 June 2008 at Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, hall 5.

5 June 2008 - 7 June 2008
France
SERI covers all the latest subjects in French and European R&D-R&I. Exhibitors, conferences, panel discussions, activities … all the ingredients for a promising edition. Preview:

A big turnout by the Carnot Institutes
The Carnot Institutes Association brings together 33 approved institutions and 12 800 research specialists. It represents almost half of French research partnerships in favour of businesses and covers most aspects of technology by positioning itself at the heart of major economic and social challenges: ICT’s, micro and nanotechnologies; materials, mechanics and processes; energy and the environment, propulsion, chemistry; construction, civil engineering and regional planning; earth and life sciences. During the Exhibition the Carnot IA Kiosk, a venue for both meetings and workshops, will encourage the creation of public and private research networks.

The noticeable participation of universities
Within the framework of the strategic plan ‘‘Elan 2020’’, the Caisse des Dépôts (deposit office) has set itself, amongst other strategic priorities, the goal of helping universities. It has joined forces with the University Vice-Chancellors’ Conference to make French universities highly visible within the Exhibition. Also worth noting: the presence of a large number of foreign universities: University of Leuven (Belgium), Thrace (Greece), Timisoara (Romania), Helsinki, Oulu, Joensuu and Tampere (Finland), Szeged (Hungary) and the Franco-German University.

Employment meetings
For the third year running, the Ministry of Research & Higher Education and the Bernard Gregory Association have joined together to encourage the creation of scientific jobs. Over 600 meetings are currently being organised to put young doctors in contact with industry. Bringing these young people closer to the world of business and enabling R&D managers to discover the great scientific potential of the academic world is the challenge set each year on the occasion of the Exhibition. Hands-on workshops will complete this approach to help young people as they embark upon their careers.

NEW FOR 2008
Thanks to its participation and intensive work by the European Commission, SERI 2008 will be equipped with a simultaneous interpreting system. The conferences and panel discussions on the TV Set and the ASIE 2 room will benefit from ‘‘live’’ translations.

Europe is where the largest number of scientists is trained. The future is collective and depends on a knowledge society. Watch this space over the coming month. Science, awareness and society come together at SERI for the 2008 edition.
