Gender Equality in Science / June 23, 2008 / Budapest, Hungary

Gender Equality in Science conference, in the framework of the WS DEBATE project, in Budapest

23 June 2008
Hungary
Major overall objective of the WS DEBATE project is the stimulation of policy and wider public debate on the situation and perspectives of women in science, in order to bridge the gap between policy developments and public understanding of the related issues, and to raise gender awareness among policy makers, scientists, as well as among the lay public interested in scientific developments, by involving also the mass media.
The conference is a follow-up of the November 2007 event, which was the „Is it difficult to be a woman scientist in Hungary today?” conference held in Budapest.
First, it will introduce the Hungarian governmental strategy and action plan on „Women and Science”. The newly elected Deputy Secretary General of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences will raise the question of career versus family life. The audience will hear about the European Platform of Women Scientists and several good foreign initiatives. The conference will serve as a forum to discuss the establishment of a Hungarian platform for women scientists. The afternoon will deal with the career of women scientists, from science education of girls to the university curriculum.Programme: accessible on-line :
