Ageing Eye Conference

The EU funded project "EuroVisionNet" is organising a conference, which will bring together world-leading experts in the fields of epidemiology, health economics, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, mechanisms of ageing, and stem cell research. The dates for your diary - 21-22 March 2009, Bonn, Germany.

21 March 2009 - 22 March 2009
Austria
Age predisposes to diseases affecting virtually all parts of our body. This is especially true for the eye where the two major eye diseases, age related macular degeneration and glaucoma, account for two thirds of all cases of blindness in Europe. With the ageing population in all Western societies and the limitations of current therapy we face a dramatic increase of blindness due to diseases of the ageing eye. The impact on the individuals affected, on the societies and their economy will be challenging.
The "Ageing Eye Conference" will address these questions by bringing together world-leading experts in the fields of epidemiology, health economics, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, mechanisms of ageing, and stem cell research. The "Ageing Eye Conference" is part of the EU funded project "EuroVisionNet", a Coordination Action under the Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7).
A representative of the European Commission's Directorate for Health Research will participate in the event.
The conference will provide the European and the global perspective of the major causes of blindness, state-of-the-art research of the pathogenesis of the major age-related eye diseases and their socioeconomic impact. The current options for treatment and rehabilitation will be discussed and future treatment strategies will be envisaged. For further information on the conference programme and registration procedures please visit: http://www.eurovisionnet.eu/(opens in new window)
