InteGRail Final Conference on March 3
Over the last four years, the 39 partners (railway system suppliers, railway operators and research institutes) developed a reference platform for an interoperable information system to promote seamless railway transportation in Europe.
The conference will present the technology of the InteGRail Information System (IGRIS):
- Define and measure the performance of the railways (KPI Assessment)
- Turn data into information using an Ontology based data model (Railway Domain Ontology)
- Make information available through cooperating services (InteGRail Service Grid)
- Adopt more standardised communication between information systems (ICOM)
Such reference platform is now becoming part of several standardisation proposals and will represent the needed basis on top of which to start building the European railway information systems of the future.
The highlight will be the live demonstration of the pilot applications that are based on this platform and have been defined starting from real railway needs in a business oriented context:
- Set up and run a new international freight service (Demo 1)
- Integrate data coming from rolling stock and infrastructure subsystems in order to have more complete and useful information on their condition (Demo 2)
- Monitor and supervise passenger trains during operation, efficiently handling any unexpected event and improving the maintenance process (Demo 3)
The successful tests of these applications in different locations in Europe in 2008 proved that the platform is capable of improving communication between railway stakeholders, thus allowing to optimise the performance of the rail system from a holistic point of view.
