International Training Course on Leadership: Managing and Motivating Teams

Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe's training centre (FTU) offers an international training course on 'Leadership: Managing and Motivating Teams' in Brussels on 1 - 2 October 2009.

1 October 2009 - 2 October 2009
Austria
Leaders are made not born. As a leader, you need the support of your team, peers and seniors and you have to interact with them. To gain their support, you must be able to understand and motivate them.

The role of the team leader is to create an environment in which the team can first develop properly and then perform to its full potential. This is a very demanding role. Some teams work remotely and for limited periods of time, as is the case with many business or research projects. Some teams need to sustain their performance over longer periods of time such as administrative teams. Some teams work internationally. Team leaders therefore need a variety of skills besides their specialist knowledge of a subject. This includes the ability to motivate and empower people; an understanding of team dynamics; cross-cultural awareness; and an understanding of how the work of the team fits to the goals of the organisation as a whole.

The attributes of a team that functions effectively are as follows
• It’s work is clearly linked to the goals of the organisation
• The members are committed, motivated and productive
• Workplace learning is encouraged and best practices are shared
• The team is flexible in response to change
• The work of the team contributes fully to the results of the organization

The following topics will be covered in this workshop:
• What is leadership?
• Benchmarking our leadership qualities
• The Team Performance Toolbox
• Bottlenecks and challenges for team leaders
• Applying some of the tools to meet these challenges
• The international context
• Dealing with different people
• Motivating and empowering people

The course provides the skills modern team leaders need to interact with their teams and a toolbox to help them apply those skills effectively.

It is designed for all professionals who are in charge of teams or those who want to prepare themselves for future jobs and limited to 12 participants in order to ensure a high quality standard.

Date: 1 - 2 October 2009

Course fee: 795 EUR.

The fee includes tuition, documentation, certificate, morning coffees, sandwich lunches, afternoon teas, refreshment drinks.

Venue: Helmholtz Office, Rue du Trône 98, 1050 Brussels, BelgiumIf you would like more information regarding this workshop, please contact Rudolf Woeste rudolf.woeste(at)ftu.fzk.de.
