Euroscience Mediterranean Event 2009 (ESME 2009)

The Euroscience Mediterranean Event 2009 (ESME 2009) will be held from 15 to 19 October 2009, in the capital of Greece, Athens in Technopolis – Athens Gazi Industrial Archeological Park.

This major event is organised by Euroscience Greek Regional Section, under the Auspices of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Dr. Karolos Papoulias, supported by the Hellenic Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs and by Euroscience, the European Association for the promotion of science and technology.

ESME 2009 is the first in a series of biennial events, dedicated to scientific research and innovation. ESME 2009 provides a platform for dialogue on science and technology, society and policy, while focusing on the specific characteristics and needs of the Mediterranean region. From earthquake predictions to global warming and from green chemistry to emerging technologies, ESME 2009 is the first event to take place in Greece with a focus on the greater Mediterranean Region dedicated to scientific research and innovation.

ESME 2009 aims to constitute a dialog starting point regarding the role of sciences in society while focusing in the Mediterranean Area. ESME 2009 intends to assess the challenges facing the Mediterranean area's scientific development and to focus on the future opportunities while featuring the best practices in the following science sectors:
• Informatics and telecommunications
• Biotechnology, Medical & Food Technology
• Energy, Environment and Infrastructures
