Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) represent the most dynamic growth segment within the aeronautics industry today and are expected to continue their rise during the next decade.
The current market is primarily military and in most countries Unmanned Aerial Systems are allowed to operate only in Military Aircraft Traffic Zones and Restricted Zones. The conquest of Civil Airspace and civil markets has just started and the military applications of UAS with regard to their advanced technological standards are the basis for the further development of new areas of application. The emerging civil market for UAS includes a wide array of potential applications ranging from emergency services, public security and commercial services. However, the civil market is at present in a very early stage of development and equally most civil UAS applications are at an embryonic stage.
Questions will be raised that include: what the most promising new market segments are, how to access these markets, entry barriers and potential for cooperation. It will address the regulatory environment and the framework to be expected for the deployment of UAS in Civil Airspace as planned by national and European authorities. It will further address the human factor aspect of UAS operations and their implications on system design. It will give an overview of current UAS activities and UAS competencies in Europe. Conference participants will have the opportunity to meet decision makers, technical managers, experts, R&D specialists and members of regulatory authorities active in the area of UAS.
Selected speakers will outline the various aspects of UAS from their differing points of view and collectively provide a comprehensive appraisal pertaining to the status and future development of UAS. A panel session will allow for a discussion of the presented topics and the questions on how industry, research institutions and public and regulatory authorities expect to overcome legal and technological barriers.
Participants will be given the opportunity to present their activities in a poster format and a limited number of static or dynamic displays, if they express their interest to the organizer.
The conference is intended to address UAS manufacturers, the related supplier industry, aviation authorities, the military, research funding organisations, airports, the IT-industry as well as aviation research organisations and universities.
