Successful process installation in COMEDD Gen2 Pilot fabrication line

The Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden (COMEDD) covers now the entire process chain for industrial research and development, as well as the first pilot production on 370x470 mm2 glass substrates.

27 October 2009 - 29 October 2009
Austria
Last year the Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden (COMEDD) was opened and the evaporation system for organic light emitting diodes and solar cells was installed. This most modern coating system for organic devices in Europe allows industrial like research and development, and first pilot production, on 370 x 470 mm² glass substrates.

In the meantime first processes were successfully installed. The installed process chain covers thereby the entire production process including a lithography-free substrate structuring, the deposition of the organic layer stack, as well as the following encapsulation of the coated substrates. At the end of the manufacturing the devices are tested fully automatically.

COMEDD covers now the entire process chain starting with the layout, the substrate structuring, the coating, encapsulation and test. That offers companies a perfect platform for the development of own processes and products.

One of the first cooperation partners for OLED lighting is the recently announced joint venture between the Fraunhofer Society and the Zumtobel group: the LEDON OLED Lighting GmbH & CO. KG. The future managing director of LEDON OLED Lighting, Jörg Amelung, comments this process start-up as an important milestone:

„The international progress within OLED lighting is impressive. Europe must here keep up. By the successful presentation of first high-efficient processes on the COMEDD line Europe underlines its further leading role in OLED lighting “.

The following exhibits will be presented at our exhibition booth at the Plastic Electronics 2009 in Dresden:

• OLED lighting and signage
• OLED projection module
• OLED on CMOS bidirectional microdisplay
