2nd International Conference on Children's Universities - EUCU.NET

The 2nd International Conference on Children’s Universities - the Twin City Conference in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Vienna (Austria) will be held from the 6th to the 9th December 2009 under the motto "Beyond the Boundaries".

6 December 2009 - 9 December 2009
Austria
“Children’s Universities” became a well known synonym for science related lectures, workshops or demonstrations and other outreach activities which are lectured by academic staff and specifically geared towards the needs and prospects of children typically aged from 7 to 14 years.

Currently, Children’s University activities take place at more than 200 academic institutions and other locations all throughout Europe and ten thousands of children are enrolled each year.

In the meanwhile, Children’s Universities have been acknowledged to be a suitable instrument of raising interest in science and technology from the earliest age possible. Furthermore, they are intended to widen participation in higher education, especially for children stemming from underrepresented families, who otherwise would most likely not have the intention (or the choice) to go onto higher education – irrespective of their potential or their school achievement.

The European Network of Children’s Universities (www.eucu.net) is intended to foster the exchange of knowledge and to kick-start new initiatives at European universities. Almost
200 organisers have signed up their projects and activities with the network. EUCU.NET is funded by the European Commission under FP7 – Science in Society.

The EUCU.NET "TwinCity Conference: Beyond the Boundaries" is aimed towards experts, practitioners and other stakeholders interested in the issue of science communication for young people and the idea of Children’s Universities!

The event will highlight the current impact of Children's Universities and focus on future ways for intensified networking and quality monitoring. The program will also include practical oriented training workshops for organisers of Children's Universities - as well as organisers to-be!

The Conference will be opened by Mr. Maroš Šef?ovi?, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth
