Workshop on Major Transboundary Diseases, Ohrid, F.Y.R. of Macedonia

The EU-funded TRANSB_DIS_ANIM_MK ('Upgrading and Introduction of Sustainable Diagnostic Tools for the Major Transboundary Diseases of Animals in F.Y.R. of Macedonia') project is organizing its final workshop on 27 - 29 January 2010 in the country's capital Ohrid.

The Workshop for Dissemination of Results will focus on topics related to the major transboundary diseases, which were addressed in the project (foot and mouth disease, classical swine fever, avian influenza and blue tongue).

Topics to be addressed are the following:
- Upgrading and introduction of implemented diagnostic methods at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje (FVMS)
- Validation/Verification of the implemented methods, towards their incorporation into the wider ISO 17025 QA system at FVMS.
- Presentation of the “in house” developed database for managing the ISO 17025 requirements.
- Incorporation of the methods into the national scheme of official testing under the Competent Authority (Head Veterinary Office).
- Presentation of the preliminary results of the surveys for Avian Influenza, Blue Tongue and CSF (only wild boars).

As part of the Workshop a whole day Round Table will be held on improvement of the WBC and other countries collaboration, future networking and harmonization to implement the control/eradication strategies based on EU legislation, for the above mentioned diseases.

Funded under the INCO Program of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) as a Specific Support Action, the TRANSB_DIS_ANIM_MK project has been training scientists and upgrading equipment in order to upgrade and implement sustainable diagnostic tools in order to improve laboratory competitiveness and contribute to the global monitoring and prevention of major transboundary diseases of animals on regional and European level.For further information, please contact:
