Preparing and submitting successful FP7 proposals: An Introduction and Financial Management of FP7 projects

This one-day course is designed to help participants in identifying funding opportunities in FP7 and to equip them with the essential information needed to prepare a successful application.
The course will cover all of the opportunities in the four main FP specific programmes – Cooperation, Capacities, People (Marie Curie) and Ideas (the ERC) – will explain to participants the main functionalities of CORDIS website, and will provide them with useful hints and tips on proposal writing (including financial aspects). The evaluation criteria and evaluation process will also be explained to participants.
The following topics will be covered in the workshop:
- Introduction to opportunities offered by FP7: explaining the main areas of research funded;
- Main functionalities of CORDIS website: how to find a call and the tool used to submit an application electronically;
- Identifying suitable opportunities in FP7: including a review of the current open calls and forthcoming calls in 2010;
- Getting involved in FP7: the different types of tools for projects;
- Preparing and writing the proposal: how to change an idea into a project;
- Tips for drafting successfully a project proposal: what to be careful to when writing a project proposal and working out the budget.
No previous experience with the Framework Programmes is required. This course will also provide an excellent networking opportunity.
DAY TWO: Financial Management of FP7 projects (18th March 2010)
The second day provides an in-depth training course designed to help participants develop the understanding required to interpret and implement FP7 financial regulations in the daily management of their projects.
The following topics will be covered:
- General financial provisions: Reg. (EC) 1906/2006 of 18th December 2006, the Grant Agreement and other European Commission documents;
- Funding Schemes;
- Direct costs: personnel, consumables, durables, subsistence costs and other direct costs; subcontracts; costs of third parties;
- Indirect costs and eligible methods of calculation;
- Ineligible costs;
- Project financial reporting;
- Certification requirements: procedures and required supporting documents.
The course targets specifically the needs of professionals and project managers who are involved in the management of FP7 projects, both in the private and public sector. The course can be an effective tool to help participants to manage projects successfully as well as further develop their internal project management strategies. It can also provide a good opportunity to network and share good practices.
