Innovation Driven Sustainable Economy - C@R Final Conference

The conference, taking place in Brussels on 3 March, 2010, aims to discuss the conditions for creating sustainable innovation ecosystems in rural and regional environments.

3 March 2010 - 3 March 2010
Belgium
Europe has rightly identified innovation as a key driver for a competitive future. The re-launched Lisbon agenda has placed innovation and entrepreneurship at the focus by the Community and the Member States in order to put the European industries at the upper end of the global value chain. At the same time, rural areas, regions and cities constitute the geographical environment for innovation ecosystems.

Innovation is a high-cost process and requires longer term collaboration among stakeholders and citizens. Under the present umbrella of a global financial crisis it is critical to develop new approaches and methodologies that foster and speed-up the innovation process and convert efficiently the R&D efforts in real gains. It is also necessary for creating a competitive and inclusive Europe to develop research and innovation infrastructures integrated in the economies and social systems of rural areas, regions and cities, as well as methodologies to support citizen empowerment and public private partnership.

In this context, the C@R project consortium organizes an event titled “Towards and Innovation Driven Sustainable Economy” in Brussels. The conference aims to discuss the conditions for creating sustainable innovation ecosystems in rural and regional environments. The conference presents the results of the C@R project (www.c-rural.eu) and explores the potential for future research and innovation activities related to Living Labs and the Social Spaces for Research and Innovation methodologies as catalysers of sustainable and inclusive rural and regional innovation ecosystems.

The key themes to be discussed are the followings:

1) Creating sustainable, inclusive innovation ecosystems in rural areas and regions
2) The concept of Living Labs: models for user-driven open innovation partnerships
3) Empowering the citizens for innovation in rural and regional areas
4) Future Internet research and innovation infrastructures for the benefit of regions
5) Economic growth and social innovation in rural areas and regions: the policy dimension.

The event consists of a half-day public conference involving key actors from different organisations. The full programme and registration form can be found on web site:
